Magnetic Health Therapy & Golfer's Elbow
Definition:
Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) is the result of pain and inflammation on the inside aspect of your elbow. Generally, it involves the tendons, ligaments and muscles of your forearm. The pain may spread into your forearm and wrist and is not limited to golfers. Other athletes including tennis players who use their wrists repetitively or grip their fingers repeatedly can also develop golfer's elbow.
Symptoms:
1. Pain that radiates along the inside of your elbow into your forearm and wrist
2. Weakness in your hands, wrist or forearm
3. Stiffness of the elbow
4. Numbness or tingling that radiates into the fingers
6. Inability to swing golf club, turn doorknob, squeeze hand, pick up objects or flex wrist
Causes:
Golfer's elbow is caused by damage to the tendons and muscles that control your fingers and wrist. Generally, the damage is related to excess or repetitive stress — especially forceful finger and wrist motions. A sudden force to the elbow or wrist may also cause golfer's elbow.
The following activities can lead to golfer's elbow:
1. Golf: Swinging the clubs incorrectly can cause injury to your muscles and tendons.
2. Racket Sports: Excessive use of topspin and the wrong racket size can hurt your elbow.
3. Sports that require repetitive throwing such as baseball or softball.
4. Other Activities: Painting, hammering, raking, typing, chopping wood and other activities that require excessive movement in the wrist, hand or arm can also result in golfer's elbow.
Risk Factors:
Golfer's elbow can affect anyone who repetitively stresses the wrists or fingers.
Complications:
Left untreated, golfer's elbow can result in persistent elbow pain. Using your wrist and fingers too strenuously before your elbow has healed can make the problem worse.
