In a review published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, researchers concluded that "The weight of evidence from published, well-conducted controlled trials suggest that static magnetic fields are able to induce analgesia."  In addition, a review of the studies revealed that "73% of the better quality studies demonstrated a positive effect of static magnets in achieving analgesia across a broad range of different types of pain (neuropathic, inflammatory, musculoskeletal, fibromyalgic, rheumatic and post-surgical."

As a college student, I feel there is good research out there which support natural alternative therapies such as magnetic therapy. I believe that conventional medicine is great; however, natural pain remedies also has a place in health and healing. I hope more people are open to trying a natural pain remedy such as chiropractic, acupuncture and magnetic therapy.

I'm a little confused. So magnets create a magnetic field but are static magnets the same as a refrigerator magnet?

Alexis,

A refrigerator magnet is considered a static magnet because it produces a constant, unchanging magnetic field. However, refrigerator magnets are considered weak static magnets compared to high grade neodymium therapy magnets.

A while back ago I lost my therapy magnet and so I used a refrigerator magnet on my lower back. Well, it didnt give me any relief. I think the refrigerator magnet was too weak to make any real difference.

I play tennis for my school but I always get pain in my elbow and forearm. My coach told me I have tennis elbow and that it was normal. Do you think magnets can help eliminate the pain in my elbow and arm?

My back has been hurting for over four months now. Do you think magnets can help reduce my back pain? I'm not sure whats wrong because I don't remember injuring it.

I injured my ankle last year while playing co-ed sports. It was swollen very badly but I made sure to ice it down. I also placed a magnet on the injury which made the swelling go down within a week. My ankle has felt fine since.
